Controversy:

# Darshan was arrested by Vijayanagar police on Sep 9th 2011 for assaulting & threatening his wife Vijayalakshmi and their son, 3 year old Vineesh with a revolver.

# Vijayalakshmi filed a complaint against him stated that he had started to harass her after she began questioning him about his affair with the actress 'Nikhita Tukral'.

# After that, she was admitted to Gayatri Hospital in Vijayanagar after being beaten up by her husband on Thursdy evening at her friend Vidya's residence, was left with swollen eye, head & face, burn marks on her arms & a bite mark on her ear.

# The police had registered a case of attempt to murder & life threat against Darshan under various provisions & produced him before the court. The judge Venkatesh Hulagi ordered Darshan to be remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. Darshan failed to get a bail in Sessions Court and decided to step into High Court.

# on the same night, because of breathing problem he was admitted to Rajeev Gandhi institute of chest diseases and undergone treatment for jaundice and asthama.

# The intervention of sandalwood stars like Ambareesh, Jaggesh, Dhuniya Vijay, Prem & others to convince Vijayalakshmi for the compromise was successful. Vijayalakshmi attended the court and requested not to consider the case as it is purely a family matter.

# Followed by this incident 'Karnataka Film Producer's Association' banned Nikhita from sandalwood for 3 years blaming her for the cause of marital discord between Darshan & his wife.

# Nikhita was hurt by this move & said to the media that " There is nothing between me & Darshanji beyond the professional relationship. If Darshan has a problem with his wife, how am I responsible? Its rediculous.
I havn't stepped out of home & switched off my phone. I just couldn't answer all those 'Do u feel targeted?' calls anymore. My family & I have been through so many traumas. My only thoughts were, 'how could they just chuck me out? The least they could have done was to inform me before they banned me. I gave the industry 9 years of work"

# Later there was a opposition for the ban from some of the senior members of sandalwood like Rajkumar family members, Sandesh nagaraj, Ramya calling it 'unprofessional'.

# Various women's rights activists also criticised the decision as 'Why only Nikhita & Why not Darshan'. Hence the ban was revoked and the KPFA President Munirathna said"We are erred & we are rectifying our mistake. Nikhitha is free to work anywhere in karnataka with anyone she wishes to. It was our foolishness to ban her. We have decided to ban the word 'ban' itself in future from kannada industry".

# Legally Darshan can overcome the hurdle of entering the prison as his wife has withdrew the complaint, although his identity has been soiled and its unfortunate that 'the hero of the reel life has become a zero in his real life'.

# Seeking to script a new chapter after being in jail for nearly a month on charge of attempt to murder his wife,on 13th October Darshan got released and apologized to his fans for misconduct as the couple vowed to move forward leaving behind the 'bitter' phase. "Please pardon me. It's a bitter incident of my life which should not have happened. Darshan will not do it again", the popular actor said. "I am extremely thankful to my fans who were solidly behind me".

Darshan's wife Vijayalakshmi, who appeared with him at a press conference, termed the episode as a ‘bad phase’. "In the heat of the moment, things to happen. After rectifying mistakes, life will be better". and said they want to put it behind and move forward.
