Personal Quotes

# I'm horrifed when I see some of my earlier work. I just wonder how I could have done certain films and got away with it too.

# I would slap anyone who accused my wife (Amrita Singh) of being on the same level as any of the other star secretaries!

# Both Salman and I've done good things for people. But no one notices our positive qualities.

# Any inferences as to something going on between Smriti and me, are baseless.

# I don't know why people love me so much. I'm not a nice guy. In fact, I'm quite boring.

# People don't remember the good things you do, they simply focus on the bad things. I have the reputation of being an arrogant brat. But if people mess around with me, obviously I will be arrogant with them. I don't have a bull's eye on my head that everyone can take a shot at me.

# I never spoke to Priyanka about the role my partner has. Though we would have loved to have her, I understand it was not a big role. The role also meant sharing screen space with Kareena and many actresses don't want that.

# I'm overwhelmed with the kindness and simplicity the village heads have shown me and my family today, and the respect to my late father. This is a huge responsibility for me, to take my father's legacy forward in whatever way I can.

# “I try not to hurt people, but sometimes when I feel I am not being understood and being treated as a human being. I can’t help it. For example, when I hurt myself while shooting for Friends [original title of Kya Kehna] and was lying in a pool of blood, people were taking my photographs.”

# “I’m looking cool. I’m not vain but I like to think I’m sexy. I wasn’t born with a face that has hero written all over it. I’ve heard people call me a funny looking guy. It’s taken a lot of effort to look like the typical hero, a man the youth can identify with.”

# “Smoking adds to the chances of your falling sick. It’s like adding a bottle of whiskey to fast driving. That’s what my cardiologist compares smoking to.”

# “I wasn’t afraid when I fell ill. I’ve always had a fatalistic attitude to life… never store it up, because you never know what’s going to happen tomorrow. I want to enjoy the day. It might be all over tomorrow. Anything can happen at any time.”

# “Performance wise it has given me a lot to explore. The film is set in the 60s. Whenever I think of the 60s, I think of my father. My character is based on him. Parineeta has me playing an oppressed son. He finally rebels and dares to stand against his father. Parineeta has everything music, misunderstandings and cultural ethos that is missing today.” -Speaking about Parineeta (2005)
